The alders in the front line Began the affray. Willow and rowan tree Were tardy in array. ~Part of Achren's riddle
My very first attempt in my life at weaving something. I've never really kept myself busy with weaving stuff, be it straw, fabric, wool, or wood. I tried wire wrapping a few times, but it wasn't really my cup of tea either and I always ended up ragequitting. I first wanted to make a basket, but although I found a tutorial with pictures and everything, I thought it was too complicated for a first try, so I decided to improvise something of my own. This mask is fully improvised, and didn't require any planning ahead or designing before I started.
It is made out of weeping willow twigs, as I know some people who recently cut one down. I figured they wouldn't mind if I took some of the small twigs, they only use the bigger parts for firewood anyway.
Luckily, I'm not allergic to pollen. If I was, I would've died. There were pollen EVERYWHERE, covering everything around me. Man, it was a mess. Though I'm not even in the least bit allergic to pollen, even my eyes were itching and my throat hurt after a while, which is saying something. (I felt like I was going to get a dust lung with all of those mini pieces of wood dust, tree bark and pollen flying around.xD)
The picture in the upper right corner is a close-up of the nose by the way, as you couldn't see it that well in the other pictures.
I worked an hour or 18 on this spread over 2 days, usually at night up until 3 or 4 AM as I don't have enough time to work on anything during the day.
It's a great wallhanger, and a reminder of one of my favorite trees. it can be worn, though it's not all that comfortable. Most certainly not if you're allergic to pollen or suffer from hay fever.
